Weather Types Around the World

COLD
Russian winters are cold. But Siberian winters are very cold! Temperatures are between minus 30°C to minus 50°C. But people don’t go outside very often because it’s cold. Just driving to work or shopping is very difficult. It also takes a long time to get dressed. Siberians wear a lot of special clothes to stay warm. When they want to relax and meet people, they go to a ‘Banya’, a traditional bathhouse. First, they get hot in the sauna and then they run outside into the snow or jump in a lake.
DRY
Deserts are very hot during the day, very cold at night and it doesn’t rain very often there. But around the world, 500 million people live in them. Water isn’t easy to find and people usually walk long distances to get it. People wear special cool clothes to protect them from the sun and sand. Nowadays many desert people live in modern houses with air conditioning. But lots of Bedouin families return to the desert at weekends to live in traditional ways. They stay in tents and use fire to heat the tent at night. They ride camels and drink camel’s milk.
RAINY
Rainforests are hot, rainy and full of plants and animals. But they are also home to 10 million people. In the South American rainforest, there are 215 ethnic groups, speaking 170 different languages! The Brazilian Yanomami people live together in large roundhouses. Four hundred people can live in one house, but each family has its own place to cook and sleep. The Yanomami spend a lot of time outside and they only work for about four hours a day. They grow plants in small gardens and hunt for animals. So there is lots of free time for music, dancing and games!
