Welcome to Mars!
Let's go back 40 or 50 years. Dubai was a tiny village in those days. There was almost nothing but sand. Then, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) builds Dubai. And the result? Today, Dubai is the largest and most futuristic city in the world, the jewel of the UAE. Yes, it is now a super-modern metropolis in the middle of a desert. There are great parks and luxurious malls everywhere. There are lots of art galleries and museums. It has the tallest skyscrapers in the world. There are even man-made islands. It is quite unbelievable.
Now the UAE plans to build an even crazier city — on Mars. The project’s name is “Mars 2117”. It is a mini-city on the Red Planet. The population of the Martian city would be 600,000. There are also oxygen supplies and transportation systems. And what else is there? Well, nobody really knows now. They still have 100 years to figure out the exact details of the Martian city.
Colonizing Mars may seem like a crazy idea but it isn’t only the UAE who is considering this. Elon Musk, head of SpaceX, would also like to send humans to Mars. He thinks Mars might be a great place and it could have a great atmosphere.“There are movies, lecture halls, cabins, and restaurants in our plans for the Mars city. It will be really fun to go. You are going to have a great time!” Musk says.
The UAE created Dubai in one of the harshest, hottest, driest, and dustiest environments on our own planet. Maybe they can do it again on Mars. Or perhaps Elon Musk will take us to Mars. Who will make this dream a reality? Let’s wait and see.
