What Can You Do to Protect Wildlife?
1. ................................................................................................... Visit zoos, aquariums, national parks and wildlife refuges, all home to wild animals. Learn more about our planet’s species from experts and see Earth’s most amazing creatures up close. Moreover, remember that many species are becoming extinct because they do not have a natural living environment. Their habitats are being destroyed because of deforestation, farming, over-grazing etc. If we take a step to protect the natural environment, the wildlife can be protected as well, which means the survival of all species in that habitat.
2. ................................................................................................... There are several organisations that protect endangered animals and their habitats. They all have different objectives. Some organisations protect the whales and others focus on saving the green areas. The Nature Conservancy for example works with local communities, businesses and individuals to protect over 100 million acres of land around the globe. It aims to preserve entire wildlife communities along with their rich species diversity. So, why not join one? You can make a difference in the world by joining in an organisation and supporting well-organised, ongoing efforts to protect species and habitats. If you don’t have money to give, donate your time. Many organisations and zoos have volunteer programmes. You can help clean beaches, rescue wild animals or teach visitors.
3. ................................................................................................... We can easily reduce our impact on the environment by recycling and reducing the energy we use. Consuming less means destroying less and protecting more, so by doing that we actually protect our natural resources and the habitat.
4. ................................................................................................... Herbicides and pesticides commonly known as weed killers, are chemical substances used to control unwanted plants and insects. They are very hazardous to wildife and even destroy some groups of animals. So, we need to encourage minimising their use and understand the danger these chemical pollutants cause.
5. ................................................................................................... The roads we build often divide habitats and cause a life threatening danger to animals which are trying to cross from one side to the other. They are at risk of being hit by cars. So, while driving through a natural environment slow down, and keep an eye out for wildlife.
