WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT K-POP?
It all started with the song Gangham Style. The song was launched in 2012 and was the most viewed video on YouTube for five years. That was when everyone around the world becomes more interested in the relatively new music genre: K-pop.
K-pop is short for Korean pop or Korean popular music. It is originated from Korea or South Korea to be specific. K-pop is basically a musical genre that consists of various other genres such as electronic, hip-hop, rock and R&B music. But what does it make so successful and popular among the younger generation around the world?
Choreography is definitely one of the areas where K pop artists completely dominate. Groups not only sing and dance. They also perform routines that are very complicated and challenging. That is a result of hard work. K-pop stars are not like most of the young western pop stars that become famous in a short period of time. They are trained and mentored by managers or agents for many years before recording their first song. As a result K pop artists can even perform their dance routines live. To be able to do that they need to be truly skilled and they also need to put an insane amount of hard work, practice in their music.
Another thing K Pop does so well is creative use of costumes and colour in music videos. They use effects, make up and outfits in the best way they can. K pop stars also bring a whole new meaning to fashion. Their real life outfits and styles often very different than people you see in your daily lives every day. K-pop idols usually have their own colourful, unique and different clothes. Take, for example, G-Dragon, a well know member of boy group Big Bang and an accomplished solo artist. He is not only known for being unbelievably talented in music, but also for being a frequent trendsetter and overall fashion icon. Pop music is all about catchy hooks and sing-along lyrics. K-pop is no different; they use melodies that are instantly stuck in your head. That makes their music appealing to fans no matter what language they speak.
