WHAT IS A GOOD FRIEND?

Young Mag has done a survey about friendship. We asked our readers to tell us about their friends and what qualities are important in a good friend. Here are the results of the survey. The results show that loyalty is the most important thing we look for in our friends. It is more important than anything else. For example, Sarah from London said, “My best friend is called Tara. I know that if I had a problem, Tara would listen and help me. It’s fantastic to have a friend like that.” Another important thing is age. Both boys and girls say that being the same age is important. Boys in particular say that it is important for a friend to be the same age and to have the same interests. Tom from Cardiff said, “If you didn’t have the same interests as another person, you wouldn’t make friends.” This is not as important for girls, who think that qualities like being friendly and kind are more important than having the same interests. There is one thing that both boys and girls don’t like at all and they would not like in a friend. This is dishonesty. Katie from Glasgow said, “If someone told me a lie, I would never trust them again. I could never tell a secret to someone who is dishonest.” Jealousy is another thing that a lot of people don’t like at all. Jon from Dublin said, I would find it impossible to be friends with someone if they were jealous of me.” Both boys and girls agree that they prefer cheerful people who smile and laugh a lot. Miserable people are no fun. The nationality or the culture of a person doesn’t matter at all. In fact, most of our readers like to meet people from different countries.
