WHAT KIND OF PERSON SHOULD YOU BE?

People come from diverse genetic backgrounds and environments; therefore, there is no prescribed version of people for a certain setting. Our differences manifest themselves when we face the same situation and react to it differently. However, people have always had a standard of behaviour in mind. That is why they frown upon certain behaviours, while they glorify others. Take being sensible, for example. Most people would agree that being sensible is a positive characteristic, while being sensitive is often thought of as a negative characteristic. Also, being insensitive is almost always considered negative. Such standards are often set by the society and culture people live in, but is there a universal agreement among people on how these characteristics should be perceived? In other words, do all human societies view being affectionate or sensible as positive?

A lot of social scientists agree that humans are not blank slates on which society can write anything it wants; rather, human beings have similar characteristics. Social scientists believe that these characteristics are common among us because they have helped us survive in this harsh, ruthless world, and without them, we would not have been able to live, let alone prosper. Therefore, being sensible is usually considered a positive characteristic, especially in the face of hard situations when emotions can dictate our behaviour.
