What to do with Injured Wild Animals

What to do with Injured Wild Animals

Imagine you are walking through the forest and you see an injured fox. Do you know what to do? This animal might be scared or in pain. It might try to scratch or bite you so you have to be careful. Here are some tips on what you can do.

  • First check to see how badly hurt it is.
  •  Never lift a wild animal. It can be dangerous!
  •  Wear gloves when touching a wild animal.
  • Keep the animal away from your face. Remember it might be scared and try to bite you.
  • Wash your hands well after you touch the animal.
  • Take care in dangerous locations like busy roads. You should look first to see if the animal is still alive.
  •  If you find a whale or a dolphin, don’t touch the animal.
  • If the animal is in a trap, don’t try to free it. You might get hurt.

If it is safe to catch or touch the animal, you must wear gloves. Quickly put the animal into a cardboard box with holes in it. This way the animal can have enough air to breathe. Try to keep the animal quiet and take it your nearest vet.
