What Was Your First Job?

What Was Your First Job?

We talked to two teenagers from Cincinnati, Ohio, about their first job.

Linda: ‘My first job was at a gift shop. I was the shop assistant there, but I did other things to earn more money, like cleaning the floor. I didn’t like the job, because I’m a shy person and often don’t like to talk to people. But I needed money, so I did the job anyway. The experience wasn’t very good at first, but I learnt something new every day. I learnt how to talk to people and help them around the shop. After some time, the job didn’t seem to be difficult any more.’

Brian: ‘I started working at the age of sixteen. It was a restaurant job and I liked it a lot. I did everything. I washed dishes, waited tables and took food into the kitchen for the chef. I didn’t work in the kitchen, though, because I didn’t know how to cook. There was only one problem. When I got home from work I didn’t have enough energy to study my lessons. I didn’t sleep well, so I felt tired at school in the mornings. I left the job that year, but now I want to start learning cooking and become a chef.’
