Wild Animals

The students of Yellow Oak School are watching a documentary about animals in the wild. Their teacher wants them to write down facts about the animals and draw pictures of them. Sam and Danny are drawing pictures of giraffes. Sam draws a small giraffe. ‘Giraffes are taller than this. You should make it taller,’ says Danny. ‘I know, but maybe that one is a very young one. It’s shorter than the others. But it’s definitely taller than an elephant.’ ‘Oh I see,‘ says Sam. Betty and Liz are looking at pictures of cheetahs. ‘Aren’t they beautiful? They have got lovely spots,’ says Liz. ‘Yes, they are. And do you know they are faster than all other animals in the wild? They can even run faster than giraffes and tigers,’ says Betty. ‘Wow!’ says Liz.
Lucy and Adrian both like lizards and tortoises. Lucy is drawing a beautiful green lizard. ‘I think the tail should be longer than this, what do you think?’ asks Lucy. ‘I think it looks good’ says Adrian. Adrian is colouring a picture of a tortoise. It’s brown and green. ‘Tortoises are slower than other animals,’ he says. ‘Because they are fat and heavy’ says Lucy. They laugh. ‘Just like pandas’ says Lucy. ‘Yes. They just eat bamboo and roll around all day long.’
