This week across many states of the US, it might be a little damp, from the Southern Plains to the Great Lakes and parts of the Northwest. There will be some poor visibility in many areas of the North due to heavy thunderstorms and fog, so drive carefully and slowly, particularly in the countryside. Electrical storms and lightning could cause freak fires to start in these areas, so stay indoors and listen to your local news broadcast for information. Do not attempt to put these fires out yourselves, but call the fire services for help. In some areas in the East of the country there will be the potential for dangerous hurricanes, so be ready to leave immediately if the emergency services ask you to. Take your pets with you and any important documentation or valuables. In Deadwood and Oregon, the rain will be torrential and severe flooding could affect low-lying areas. In coastal areas of Washington, the storms will be the most intense, so again, be ready to leave your homes in the next 24 hours. Only the south of the country is free from terrible weather, but here the temperatures will be bitterly cold, so wrap up warmly if you are out.
