Woodwind Instruments

Woodwind Instruments

The very first woodwind instruments were hollow pieces of wood. People blew into a hole on one end and they made a sound. Since that time, they have become more complicated and started to be called as “woodwind instruments.” Although these instruments are called “woodwind,” they are no longer made of wood. They are generally made of gold, silver, or platinum, like flutes. Lots of professional flute players choose solid silver ones, and generally students play on silver-plated metal flutes. The flutes, long narrow tubes, make a sound when someone blows over their mouthpiece. If you are playing a flute, you also cover the holes with your fingers to control the notes the flute plays.

When we consider symphony orchestras, the woodwind instrument family has more kinds of instruments than others. There are flutes, clarinets, saxophones, bassoons, English horns, and so on. They are all hollow tubes. These instruments are all made of wood, plastic, metal, or a combination of them.
