Working in a Wildlife Park - Delight & Dillema
I currently work at the San Diago Wildlife Centre in the USA and I absolutely love my job. We provide our animals with natural open spacies in which they live happy and healthy lives. The larger creatures, such as rhinos, are able to live in groups in similar habitats and conditions to those in the wild.
Many people accuse the park of taking animals from the wild to feed the public’s demand. However, some animals, like pandas, would probably be extinct now if we didn’t have the captive breeding programmes. In truth, we are protecting many species. We often breed animals in captivity but release them back into the wild when possible.
In the past, zoos used to use the animals to entertain the visitors and get them to do tricks or dress them up. Nowadays, we try to educate the public showing the natural behaviour of the wildlife and provide strong information programmes about their conservation. It’s hard work, and we work for long hours, but it is very rewarding and satisfying.
