You’re not going to . . .

My dad never believed in me because I always made silly choices. He always said,
‘Son, you’re not going to get anywhere
with that,’ every time he saw me doing something—painting, singing,
dancing, music, arts in general! I never did well in those,
but I always thought it was because of my dad’s words.
Three years ago I decided to try a different thing: a sport! I made a list of sports,
and chose the one that I loved most—
tennis.
When my dad saw me play tennis, he repeated that
sentence! But this time, I didn’t give up.
I tried harder and
harder to show him that he was wrong.
My dad stopped saying that sentence when I won my first championship.
He changed his sentence to ‘You were going
to do it, and I knew it.’ First I was angry.
How could he say
something different now? But then I discovered the secret behind his words . . .
