Are you afraid?
Sometimes we are afraid of something. Maybe you are afraid of thunderstorms, exams or talking to people. Being afraid is sometimes a good thing because we don’t do dangerous things. For example, we work hard when we have exams because we don’t want to get low marks. How does your body work when you are afraid of something? Your heart beats faster and you breathe quicker. This reaction is called fight or flight. It means, when you are face to face with something you are afraid of, you stay and fight or you run and escape (flight). Your body does many things automatically, so you can be ready to fight or escape. Your heart beats faster to pump more blood to your heart and lungs. Your eyes get bigger so you can see better. These are the things your body does when you are face to face with fear.
