Email and its Problems

Email and its Problems

1. The electronic mail – or email – is one of the greatest Internet inventions. After instant-messaging apps flooded the world of phones, people thought that the age of email was over. However, email continues to be popular, especially among professionals.

2. Email was developed in the 1970s, a long time before the Internet came to people’s homes. It was used to leave a message on the same computer for another user. However, after computers were able to communicate via a network, email was used to send messages between computers. The structure of an email address was very simple. First you needed to write the user’s name, then add the @ sign, and then type the computer’s name. Email developed very rapidly in the next few years with a lot of people adding small new features, like folders, to it.

3. Today email is the most popular Internet service in the world. Around 600 million users use email daily. However, it doesn’t come without its downsides. The biggest problem for the users is spam, the unwanted email that is sent to you regularly by an unknown source. Dozens of unwanted emails in your inbox can be really frustrating. That’s why email service providers use smart programs to find spam and put it in your Spam folder. This still can cause problems. If your friend’s email is recognised as spam, it will go there too. Luckily, these programs are smart and can learn which emails from which addresses are not spam.
