HEALTHY CHOICES
Kevin loves eating pizza, french fries, burgers and chips. His favourite drinks are cola and milkshake.
“You shouldn’t eat this stuff all the time,” his grandma says angrily.
“They have lots of sugar and salt and it’s not good for your health.”
“But Grandma, they taste so delicious. Why shouldn’t I eat them every day?” asks Kevin.
Grandma says, “When you eat sugary food you get tired quickly. But when you eat vegetables and fruit,
you get energy and you feel better.” Kevin thinks for a while.
He remembers that every time he eats french fries and drinks cola, he has a stomachache.
“When I’m bored I watch TV and have a milkshake and some sweets,” he says.
“Drink milk or water and don’t drink sugary things every day,’’ says Grandma.
“When I’m bored I go for a walk. You should get active and go out. Eat more fruit and vegetables.
They give you all the minerals and vitamins you need. You need good food for a healthy body,
shiny hair and strong bones. You need it so you can grow tall and keep fit,” she adds.
“Do you know what gives you strong bones?” she asks. “No, I guess not,” says Kevin.
“Yogurt, cheese, broccoli and fish are very good for your bones,” says Grandma.
“But I hate the taste of broccoli, yuck!” says Kevin. “How about eating it with some yoghurt sauce on the top?
It tastes so good!” says Grandma. “Okay, Grandma, I’ll try that next time. Can I have a cookie now?’’ asks Kevin.
“Yes, you can. But this is the last cookie for today, and there’s no dessert after dinner.”
“Alright, I promise,” says Kevin.
