Importance of Sleep
Sleep plays an important role in our health. When we sleep, our bodies rest and conserve energy. Most adults need at least 7 – 8 hours of sleep, on the other hand, teenagers need about 8 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Getting enough sleep has many benefits for our physical and mental health.
Unfortunately, many teenagers don’t get enough sleep these days. Recent studies show that teenagers sleep in a different way from adults or children. During the teenage years, the body’s biological clock changes. Most teenagers’ bodies tell them go to sleep late at night and wake up later in the morning. These changes happen when teenagers’ lives are very busy. They need to do well at school, but they have many things to do like sports and after-school activities. Most schools start early in the morning and some teenagers only get six or seven hours of sleep a night.
Studies show that 30% of students fall asleep in class, and scientists say lack of sleep causes decrease in school success. Also, not sleeping affects teenagers’ performance in sports and other activities. It creates feelings of sadness and depression too. In order to avoid this, we all should try to go to bed at the same time because this routine tells our bodies that it’s time for sleep. Shortly, when you sleep well, it makes you feel positive and ready for the day.
